Enduro holiday in Namibia - an idea became a reality

No competition, no time pressure and the freedom to just be - enduro-travel, something that has become almost inaccessible within our European surroundings, added to that a fascinating environment and impressions that will remain with you forever. Impossible to imagine?

Not anymore! Several visits, numerous plans and even more ideas and expectations resulted in the first "rough" travel plans. In 1992 we undertook an extensive journey across the country and held a variety of discussions with local tourism and travel experts. We spent approximately five months exploring, noting, amending and testing the most beautiful local routes and resorts/lodges.

We have covered several additional kilometres since that time. We also asked friends and acquaintances to test two of the tours, specifically with regards to the practicality, the concept and to test the route information and to improve where required. In 1993 we finally decided to launch the Gravel Travel Southern Africa tours and to date we have established several additional tours. Gravel Travel also works with the action team of the Motor Press Publishing House in Stuttgart amongst others.

Ralf Moeglich

Entrepreneur, qualified mechanic and Yamaha dealer Ralf Moeglich can look back onto an extensive history of international motorcycle experience in motorcross, enduro and as a ralley-sport participant (Paris-Cape Town, the Pharao ralley in Egypt and Transpana). Ralf directs the majority of tours and uses many of his own experiences in Namibia to share some interesting learnings.

Annette Tollkühn

is your contact person for Gravel Travel in Germany. She is responsible for all questions related to the bookings, flights, extensions and special requests regarding Gravel Travel. Her extensive knowledge was gained by her own participation in the majority of the tours.

Namibia

Reiner Schuster (Renno)

Reiner has participated in the Namibian tours for many years and is therefore well-known amongst the majority of our former participants. The previous motorcross professional had to put in a short break from our tours as his assistance as a suspension specialist was required during the Motorcross World Championships. As the championships are now over, we are pleased to welcome our "Marlboro Man" (an absolute all-rounder) back onto the team.

Andy Mayer

The majority of our Kaokoland participants will definitely remember Andy. We believe that he is a fantastic expert in terms of northwestern Namibia, but he has at times also led some of the Classic tours for us. He has been preparing our Kaokoland camps for more than 10 years and his culinary skills and campfire stories are unforgettable. Andy is also the main guide for our off-road tours.

South Africa

Rachel Tchomba

Rachel originates from Cameroon and has been living in South Africa with her son for the past 10 years. She has passed all her tour-guide qualifications with exemption with specific focus on the Cape Province. Rachel manages our offices in Cape Town and is primarily responsible for the outline of the tour programmes and the hotel/lodge selections.

Elfranco Coetzee

Another new team member is Elfranco. The Cape Town resident is a total motorcycle enthusiast and knows almost all of the motorcycle routes in South Africa (especially those that are not published in guidebooks...). He is an excellent guide and still has plenty of ideas for future tours.
